Cracked Heels Home Remedy with Epsom Salt
Share
Cracked, rough heels are common in India's dry heat and during long days on your feet. A warm Epsom salt soak softens the skin so it's far easier to care for - here's a simple at-home routine.
Why heels crack
Heels crack when the skin around the heel pad dries out and thickens, then splits under pressure from standing and walking. Softening that hardened skin regularly, and moisturising straight after, is the gentlest way to keep heels smooth.
The Epsom salt heel-softening routine
- Add 2-3 tablespoons of Epsom salt per litre of warm water to a basin.
- Soak your feet for 15-20 minutes until the heel skin softens.
- Gently use a pumice stone or foot file on the softened areas - never force it.
- Pat dry and apply a rich moisturiser or foot cream while skin is still slightly damp.
- For deep cracks, wear cotton socks overnight after moisturising.
Doing this 2-3 times a week keeps heels noticeably smoother. A variant like Rosemary adds a pleasant aroma to the ritual.
FAQ

Can I file dry heels? Soak first - filing dry skin is harsher and less effective.
How often? 2-3 times a week is a comfortable rhythm.
